I just read an SES NY Recap article from the SearchInsider and I have to say I witnessed the initial remarks regarding the attendance at SES Chicago this past December. I think there are two main reasons SES attendance appears to be down (I have not seen attendance numbers to verify a drop). First as stated in the article, there are several new media events with many dates over lapping. This year during SES Chicago, PubCon an event that has been drawing many of the industries most respected, occurred at the same time. Aside from a preference of one of the events over the other, where would you rather be in December, Chicago or Las Vegas? The second factor (with parts of the first) affecting SES attendance is the loss of Danny Sullivan and his start of SMX. Many people look to Danny as one of the main leaders in the search industry, and for him to no longer be apart of a search conference series - that he was previously extremely involved with - it is going to impact attendance and this becomes even truer when he creates his new conference series. I have never attended an SMX event and I would take that opportunity over SES any day.

I read about google suggest this morning - and how it seems it may become the default, and here it just happened - by default.

Its Friday and time to log off.

Its good Friday, what’s this (see below) doing here (snow today is bad - I am pretending its summer), or maybe it makes sense. I never understood why its called good Friday - “Mourning Friday” seems more logical, save the good for Sunday. Good Sunday now that I understand. I read some info and it looks like it may have once been called God’s Friday, and only in English is it known as Good Friday.

Google’s wireless-auction loss called possible win.
And in easier to follow winning news - the Wisconsin Badgers just won.

Try a “50 50″ and ask for it equinox style, recipe below (hold off until the weekend).
1 oz Malibu Rum (light colored bottle - day)
1 oz Stroh Rum (dark colored bottle - night)
What a drink to mark sun overhead at the equator, a worthy celebration.
As always drink in moderation.

Remember back in middle school when summer meant skateboarding all day and maybe an hour total of work (if you had a paper route like me). Well these days summer usually doesn’t mean less work, hopefully an extra couple days off, or some summer hours. In San Diego at one of the places I worked, we had summer hours year round, meaning you where never there at 5:00 on a Friday, you were probably already in the ocean a good hour or two before. I would be hammering some code and the marketing manager would come out of her office and say go home, and we all said okay. My current job usually offers addition summer holidays which is a very nice added benefit.
In fact, right now I am busier at work than I was this winter, and have to do some work yet tonight - which is fine because I like what I do. Since we had the first rainy day and night of the summer today, it’s easier to get that work done.

NCAA College Basketball Tournament
This summer has been off to a good start - and now the tournament.
It has been one full week of summer and I have yet to attend a barbecue, then it will be really rolling.

Nice, just like approaching a woman in a coffee shop and getting her number, after taking down a seriously caffeinated drink.

More online display ad options for Google - in an area it currently trails Yahoo and even AOL (IDC estimates online display ads currently represent 20% of the online ad market). Immediately following this approval, Google will still trail, but the deal will give some leverage to improve market share in the long run. As Google wrote: why we’re buying DoubleClick.
